DAVID FERREIRA – MODALISBOA FW16/17 – TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI PHOTOS BY RUI VASCO

Dear Shaded Viewers,

A newcomer on the diverse ModaLisboa schedule, David Ferreira launched his eponymous brand last year, after working with talented designers, such as Giles Deacon and Iris Van Herpen. His clothes gravitate towards Haute Couture, and there was plenty of drama in his first show, including several evening looks as well as decadent furs. His streamlined clothes were often his best, ranging from a red coatdress trimmed with contrasting pink fox to a pleated bustier dress embellished with Mongolian lamb. In a pretty warm location, it was amusing to see so much fur on the runway, from a two-tone wrap to a sporty, oversize fox, which fused the collection's key colors: red, shocking pink and white. A fitted dress with a flared skirt shape featured contrasting circles on the bust, hinting at 1980s clubbing. It'll be interesting to see how Ferreira evolves his vision further next season to include more daywear in his collection, which would clearly benefit from a few extra, simpler everyday styles.

Best,

Philippe
