Balenciaga announced October 7 that Demna Gvasalia has been appointed as artistic director for the collections.
Gvasalia will present his first collection at the women’s ready-to-wear autumn / winter 2016-17 show in Paris.
The 34-year-old designer is a graduate from the Royal Fine Arts of Antwerp and launched his first collection at Tokyo Fashion Week in 2007. In 2009 he began designing the women’s collections at Maison Martin Margiela until 2013 until he was appointed seniot designer of women’s ready-to-wear collections at Louis Vuitton. He then launched the brand VETEMENTS which presented its first women’s ready-to-wear collection at Paris Fashion Week in 2014.
Gvasalia will continue working for VETEMENTS while he is the artistic director of Balenciaga.
