NYFF: “Journey to the Shore” (September 29)

Tuesday night, I was at two films at the New York Film Festival.

The first one was director Kiyoshi Kurosawa's film "Journey to the Shore".

The film won the Best Director in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.

The story is about a woman, who's husband drowned three years earlier, who is surprised when he shows up at their home.

It begins a journey where they visit different people (some living, some dead) along the way.

The third meeting with an old farmer is the best section of the film.

Overall, the film's central theme is loss, loneliness and acceptance.

I enjoyed the film but, I don't think it'll be my favorite at this year's festival.
