Dear Shaded Viewers,
Expectations were running high for this very first edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tbilisi, which took place in the Georgian capital this month. If Georgian designers have not yet been on the industry's radar, this is about to change thanks to Sofia Tchkonia, who has relentlessly promoted the designers she knows and nurtures. One of the strongest proposals came from Tamuna Ingorokva, who is based in Tbilisi and focuses on womenswear. Her minimal and elegant silhouettes were energized by sportswear details and finishes, such as drawstring waists, lightweight fabrics and roomy shapes. Looking at her clothes in the showroom, I was struck by the craftsmanship, razor-sharp cuts and choice of fabrics, giving a deluxe feel to the simplest items. The show put some of the designer's key signatures to the fore, such as menswear-inspired tailoring, architectural shapes, monochrome pairings and textured black, a leitmotiv within several Georgian collections.
Best,
Philippe
