Dear Shaded Viewers,
it was a very unxpected surprise to discover that the inspiration for Hussein Chalayan Fall Winter Collection was the famous Agatha Christie’s novel “Murder on the Orient Express”. The reference is subtle and not so immediate, it is however a journey into a desirable wardrobe that starts to the East to arrive to the West. The catwalk becomes the plot where to meet the first class passengers as well as all the others characters or member of the train’s staff. From fluid and deconstructed tailoring to workwear with exaggerated sleeves and mary-jane shoes, from incredible long dresses with embroideries (some seemed to trace the silhouette of a 30's style woman, Agatha herself?) and faux fur to gowns with pleated drapes that include the mechanics of drawstring curtains, some of them also with shiny silver and gold textures. A dress for each compartment of the train, for each part of the story. A much more elegant dress for the fatal night of the murder, a cloche sculpted hat till leather oversize suits as well as sporty jackets with snow peaked mountains prints for the coldest nights. The color palette is basic: camel, white, black and grey, just a touch of red. From darkness to light his signatures styles are there to be loved, his trasformable design is back again in all his glory, with much more glamour than before.
Later,
Giorgia
