The Making of Stanley Kubrick

Dear Shaded Viewers and Diane,

Those who were expecting slippery hallways leading to rounded ballrooms, pearly interiors or a doorbell ringing Daisy, would have been surprised: the Kubricks' estate, or Childwickbury Manor, is a cozy if spacious country home, nestled in luscious British green a 40-minute ride north of London or so. It's where Christiane Kubrick lives and paints, and as I got there last night, it bathed in the pinkest sunset. A quietly thrilled crowd of wealthy film buffs, from three different countries at least, came for the launch of the latest, much awaited Taschen monograph: The Making of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, a limited edition of 1500 copies, excluding those that were readily sold yesterday, currently available on the Taschen website for just about £450 each. Released five years after the now sold out Stanley Kubrick's Napoleon. The Greatest Movie Never Made, the edition comprises of four hardcover volumes: Film Stills, Behind the Scenes, Screenplay and Production Notes, all encased in the shape of a familiar black monolith, as charming and mysterious as it ever was. Foolproof and incapable of error as Taschen tends to be, one can only wonder what will come next.
