ESMOD BERLIN GRADUATE SHOW – TEXT BY SOPHIE JOY WRIGHT

Dear Shaded Viewers and Diane,

I attended the ESMOD Graduate show last week and across the board, I was rather impressed by the designers' innovation with different materials and precision in construction.

The intelligent collection from Henny Eickhorst was for the romantic explorer, and had just the right amount of wearability and quirk with its considered palette and amusing accessories.

Alessandra Nilsson Ladner used many different fabrics and prints in her streetwear collection that maintained an intelligent and understated air.

The sophisticated aesthetic from Catharina Saffier with her boxy jackets, turtle-neck sweaters and straight-line pants was refreshingly clear and unassuming.

Solids, the collection from Carmina Blank, used bleechwood and plexiglass, as well as triple-bonded cotton-jersey to create architectural, near static forms. These unusual materials didn't, however, plunge the collection into a gimmicky presentation, as the neutral tones and clean lines kept it approachable.
