Dear Shaded Viewers,
Although it wasn't anywhere near as cold as I thought it would be, it was maybe -6 c, there was a light dusting of snow nearly everyday. Did you know that the sun only comes out, maximum, 50 days a year.
That is one reason why the buildings are so colorful.
Everything is hand embroidered in Russia, Tatyana Parfionova is multi-disciplinarian, she writes, she paints, she designs, embellishes furniture, paints on surfaces of all kinds. She specializes in dressing ballet dancers.
This is my favorite piece, she manages to tell stories, fairy tales maybe, with her designs.
She told us a funny story while we were sitting facing the main street for our tea, the people that pass by the window never look in. It is something alien to French. They do not check themselves out in windows nor show any curiosity at all. Her boutique is on Nevsky pr, a main artery through the city.
You can feell the dancer in this piece, don't you think?
Tatyana Parfionova, she claims to be a little child inside and she gave me three of her books, I'm not sure how many she has published but they are full of the sweetest drawings and I know sayings but I'll need someone Russian to translate them for me.
Later,
Diane
