Dear Diane and Shaded Viewers,
Last night I attended the New York launch of "Comme des Carres" at the Comme des Garcons boutique in Chelsea. Comme des Carres is a collaboration between CdG and Hermes, for which Rei Kawakubo redesigned the classic Hermes silk scarves. The black and white horse, gingham and splatter paint prints were absolutely striking (so much so that I contemplated how one might look on my living room wall). The mannequinns, covered in the same print, were also fun.
Kawakubo as designer and Comme des Garcons as a label have become masters of reinterpretation and this collaboration is no exception. Taken out of its regular, haute bourgeois context, these scarves breathed a new life.
Best,
Eugene
