NYFF50: TRIBUTE TO RICHARD PENA

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Last evening director Michael Moore hosted a gala tribute to Richard Pena, who after 25 years is leaving his post as program director for Film Society of Lincoln Center. When I began attending the New York Flim Festival in 1968 the program director at the time Richard Roud introduced me to French Filmmaking and makers. Jean Eustache's The Mother and the Whore, which I saw at the festival in 1973 has greatly influenced my work today along with Jean-Luc Godard whose work I also met in those early days. Richard Pena came along and showed me and all of us a world beyond the french film. It has been a wonderful explosion of wealth. Richard Pena among many things offerd us to dream of a bigger cinema world. My dream is to see my film on those screens. This season has been the best in years, thank you Richard.
