NYFF50: Director Lee Daniels Hot Messy Film Noir

Dear Shaded Viewes,

Lee Daniels is an audacious messy filmmaker and every frame of The Paperboy screened at The New York Film Festival along with it's soulful score featuring the great Nona Hendrix delivers a sexually and racially charged film noir performed by a cast that seems to be dripping in humid sweat from beginning to end. Nicole Kidman creates Charlotte Bless with honest abandon. And you will never think of Disney again when Zac Efron comes to mind. And as far as I am concerned the soul of the film is Macy Gray who is a revelation. What becomes clear is that Lee Daniels takes his subjects seriously and to heart and with that inspires his viewers to abandon all expectations and join him on his wild ride.
