Dear Diane and Shaded Viewers //
Yesterday I touched down in one of my favorite Scandinavian cities, Stockholm! I quickly unloaded my things at the Berns Hotel – which just so happens to be, in part, the show venue for Stockholm Fashion Week. The Berns Salonger (the name of the regal theater) dates back to 1863 and my room which sits atop the space was fittingly the make-up room for the actors. I share with you the giant circluar window overlooking the Berzelii Park. Then onto highlights from Day 001.
// ALTEWAISAOME //
Founded in 2009 by designers Natalia Altewai and Randa Saome, this season drew inspiration from Raol Mazzoni's geometric paintings. Their ideas and inspiration were realized via layered shapes, mixed materials and a range of muted colors infused with hints of soft pink, vivid orange and blue. A highlight was their collaboration with eyewear company KunoQvist.

With her namesake brand the young designer explains that she aims to "explores the edges of commercial fashion". Meaning, she plays with illusionary proportions by way of changing colors, often layering sheers and implementing unpredictable folds. Her play on systemic errors is quite intriguing but with that one needs also to focus on direction even if its an irregular one.
// Whyred //
Easily understood why the brand is a favorite among locals, considering they enforce a first-come first-serve environment where anyone can be a front row guest. The inspiration for the collection is Calypso Punk, now I 100% see the Calypso color reference; royal blue, orange (or cheddar as they call it) turquoise and then pairing this with a jungle print -but- I found nothing punk about this collection. Yes grooming included a bob and yes their "exit" print has New Wave roots but I can't image the collection on St. Marks Place and / or on the pages of 70's Interview Magazine, from which the collection is referenced. Fun, light, colorful – yes! 70's, New Wave, Punk – I need to take another look!
