Dear Shaded Viewers and Diane,

There is a delicate, limpid and slippery poetry in Sayoko's composition, as if her notes were gently laid on a thin, gauzy layer of ice. I recently had the great pleasure to meet her at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, and she told me about her life and rhythm, about the invisible films in her mind and the one we'll soon be watching.

 

S.B.: Before moving to Paris you've been living in Tokyo and then New York for quite some time in the 90s. In which ways do you believe the different atmosphere, the air and mood and spirit of each of these iconic cities influenced your music and creative growth?

S.P.: I happened to live through these three cities by being attracted to the unknown..
The five senses of mine have been stimulated in different ways in each city. 
Facing my own emotions -like a wild animal inside me-, polishes the sixth sense..
They constantly want to be expressed, make me busy dressing them up into creativity.

S.B.: Is there anywhere else you'd like to go, perhaps just as a visitor, an exotic dreamland you'd be curious about or a deserted landscape to inspire your next album?
