I Heart Design is unique in that it isn't just a blog, it's a resource. Andrea De Rosa and Ashley Manhan are providing a very accessible and immediate service based on their background as design professionals. Concept: DeRosa and Manhan take an inspiration image, typically an interior shot or a fashion based mood shot, identify the core elements that make that image intriguing (color, texture, pattern, scale), and select furnishings around that image to create a unique room. One clicks on a piece they like and they are directly routed to the retailer's site to view and purchase the piece instantly. The marketplace acts as a very basic search engine where a user can view everything they've ever posted. It's genius, innovative, and a lot of fun.

How important is fashion in interior design and visa versa?

Trends in fashion are extremely important to the world of interior design. Interiors are an extension of one's self just like clothing and accessories are an extension of one's personality.  We pull a lot of inspiration from present and past collections.

Is social media important in your business and how have you incorporated it?

It's impossible to deny the importance of social media- especially for an online-based company like I Heart Design. We love being featured in blogs who have loyal followers- it's more personal than tweeting and posting to Facebook. While we regularly post to Facebook, we found tweeting to be a little redundant (and very time consuming).

3 things you should always invest in for your house/apt?

Focal features always steal the show. Invest in great rugs or a fabulous chandelier to really define the space and set the tone. And everyone should really have a beautiful place setting- stemware, china, silverware- the entire package.

Projects you are both currently working on?

We've been extremely fortunate and have had very loyal clients with intriguing projects. Here in LA we've worked closely with sbe and their visionaries on a number of properties. SLS Miami opens this spring and we just signed on for SLS Las Vegas.  Out east we do a lot of work for the Borgata Hotel, Casino and Resort. Both are very creative companies in their respective markets.

Favorite project you worked on since being in business together?

We recently completed a residential project that holds a very special place in our heart, a fabulous residence on Park Avenue in Manhattan. It's a fun, fresh and sophisticated residence for a stylish, young family.

Design icons you look up to that paved the way?

Tony Duquette, Dorothy Draper, David Hicks, Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent are just a few icons we adore. Draper and Hicks were so bold with their use of pattern, color and contrast.  And everyone has to appreciate the impressive and eternal empire that is Chanel.

Color trend of now?

Rosey nudes, peachy creams, mint greens mixed with basics like a flax linen are divine. Those colors also make for a perfect spring palette.

What's next for you?

The home goods market is becoming more prominent as consumers demand well designed, accessible home furnishings and accessories. We would love to dive into the world of product development and strengthen the identity of I Heart Design as a lifestyle brand.
