Ladies with an attitude: The mannequins of China. By Glenn Belverio

Dear Shaded Viewers,

You won’t see mannequins like these in Sanlitun Village–the luxury shopping district on the east side of Beijing–but you see them in every other shopping area of China. Our guess was that they’re Soviet Union leftovers from the ’80s as they seem to have the demeanor of someone equipped to deal with harsh social conditions, but they could have been imported from any Eastern Bloc country I suppose. We saw them everywhere in Beijing and Tianjin and I wanted to share some here as I’m mildly obsessed with mannequins.
