I'm a Sydney sider, albeit one who has lived in London's fair shores
of Hackney for the last few years, and I loved the explosion of
temporary restaurants and underground bars in England's capital.

Thus you can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to return to
Sydney and find the 'small bars' craze in full swing. In fast
succession, tiny bars and speakeasies have reared their frothy heads
all over this town. Melbourne has always trumped Sydney in terms of
culture but now, I'm not so sure.
