Dinner with Michael Holm and Nadia
Dear Shaded Viewers,
This morning it was Rome, this evening Copenhagen. I am here as a guest of Copenhagen Fur and I am sure this will distress some of my readers. Michael and Nadia and I had an interesting discussion about the fur issue. Call me middle of the road but I am of one mind about minks and rabbits and of another about other exotic furs. I find it educational to hear both sides of the argument. I have not eaten red meat in decades but don't feel bad when I wear a vintage gorilla coat of Mr. Pearl's, who, I might add, is a strict vegetarian and the owner of the coat. The way we justify it is the gorilla has been dead for half a century and would have been dead if we wore the coat or not. As for new fur coats I don't see minks or rabbits as being in any danger of extinction nor of being particularly endearing animals so when I wear a rabbit vest of Boudicca, I know I should feel bad but actually I don't. I wear leather shoes and that is skin without the hair, so what is the difference between wearing leather or wearing fur… Nadia understood my conflict completely and did not try to convince me of her stand on the issue but instead offered some information that I was not aware of, it is food for thought. I'll report on the show tomorrow.
Later,
Diane
