PEPPINO CAMPANELLA’S LIGHT OBJECTS: TEXT AND PHOTOS VITO MONTEDORO

Dear Diane & Shaded Viewers

During my holidays in Puglia (Italy) I visited a singular artist-designer's hearquater in Polignano a Mare (Bari). Peppino Campanella stands between art and design, collectionist of stones retrieved and supporter of the use of waste materials. The idea of "bringing light to rock" begins to coalesce in his mind: stars to assemble rocks, glass and shells from the earth and from the sea with lead and tin to create and to participate in exhibitions. Glass is the lead character in Campanella's creation because of his capacity to transmit extraordinary light effects. The purpose of his object is not illuminate, but to create new atmospheres that will astonish his viewers.
