Somewhere by Sofia Coppola

Just saw this with my friends and we did not exit the film with the same opinion. Well, we all thought that the most moving moment was the breakfast scene and I was not at all surprised to hear that Sofia was influenced by Chantal Akerman's Jeanne Dielman, a beautifully crafted but extremely slow film. Sofia is a master at visualizing boredom, I am a real fan of Lost in Translation. Somewhere looks great and the actress Elle Fanning who plays the part of Stephen Dorff's daughter is a revelation. For some reason she makes me think of a female version of Michael Pitt. Somewhere goes nowhere but I guess that is the point. It's about empty people trying to figure out what kind of person they want to be. Regardless if you love or hate the film, Sofia was born to direct and she is damn good at it.
