Anyone fancy a little siesta after a frantic shopping spree?
Dear Shaded Viewers,
Following the success of their 'AKTION I' pop-up store in Antwerp, A.F.Vandevorst decided to join forces with the Hoet Bekaert Gallery -and several other partners- to renew the experience in Knokke. Lovely Katja Devlamynck -the designers' PR in Antwerp- took me inside for a little tour. The space is huge and will showcase temporary art exhibitions, as well as other surprises. There's even a Barista bar, which will surely prove useful in such hot weather. The store will be open until the end of September. Katja is one of the few women I've met who can rock a white mini-skirt and still look elegant. She was a great guide.
Among the several partners occupying the space, I loved Caroline Van Hoek's jewellery selection, which was made exclusively by artists. She has a gallery in Brussels, too and I'll make sure not to miss her next vernissage in September. The rope necklaces were clear winners.
I also liked Kavan Ronsey's selection, showcasing limited edition objects made by international artists. They will host temporary solo exhibitions every fortnight in Gustav and open a space in Brussels soon.
People gathered at the bar as temperatures soared in the afternoon. It's hotter in Belgium now than in some parts of Spain or Italy and many are clearly not used to it, including myself.
Best,
Philippe
