Election day: Chicago, Nov.4/5 2008 Jody Johnson

Believe it or not, on election day there were still people working at headquarters (so many that they were on the floors in the kitchen again), but in the streets the celebration had already started. Everyone was wearing ‘I voted’ stickers and OBAMA was everywhere. Grant Park started filling up around 6:00 and there were over 70,000 people with even more on the ‘other side of the fence’ who didn’t have tickets. When the Obama victory was announced there was an explosion of cheer and jubilation; the combination of tears and euphoria was unbelievable..and a palpable collective sigh of relief. The motto YES WE CAN became YES WE DID! Coming home on the subway at 1:30 am the Chicago Tribune was already out: IT’S OBAMA
