DANIEL WAKAHISA IN RIO REPORTS ON OESTUDIO

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Whenever in Japan I am usually delighted to meet Europeans or Brazilians. In Brazil it’s the other way around. Nobuyuki Ogata, creative director of OESTUDIO, was introduced to me during SPFW by my dear friend Miki of H.P. France, his PR in Tokyo. These are some photos they sent me of the show:

Based in Rio de Janeiro, OESTUDIO is the sort of design studio I would normally associate with cites such as Berlin, being so fresh and cool yet down to earth. It all started 7 years ago when Nobu-san (23 at the time) moved to Rio with his Brazilian partner Nina, who have met in Italy while working for Oliviero Toscani at Fabrica. Now they employ 25 people ("A lot of pay cheques") creating pretty much anything a Mac will handle; websites, graphics, videos, products. In fact designing clothes is only a small part of the business, giving them the opportunity to experiment, catch media attention, and have some "fun". They don’t really need to make money out of it
