On my last day in Athens I went to visit Loukia, the most celebrated Haute Couture designer in Athens. Theodora, who works with Loukia selling the collection picked me up at my hotel and took me to the atelier.
In addition to Haute Couture she also has introduced a line of ready to wear two seasons ago and as well she does costumes for theatre and the cinema.
In fact she got her real start when the actress Melina Mercouri asked her to design her costumes. They became great friends and Loukia went on to design all of Melina’s wardrobe and costumes up until the day she died. My Dad would have been impressed as he had a huge crush on Melina Mercouri for as long as I can remember.If you don’t know who she is google her, she was the international ambassatrice from Greece, a strong, elegant and highly intelligent beautiful blond known for her passion and outspoken qualities. Here is a coat that Loukia designed for her. She also designs for Irena Pappas, another amazing Greek actress who is also both strong and beautiful.
Before I left I asked Loukia if she could send me a jpeg of Melina Mercouri in some of her designs, when she does I will post them for you. I also told Loukia that I would like to see her on IQONS.COM with her work and when she posts her portfolio that it would be nice to see some of her costume designs as well as her haute couture.
