London’s Design Festival is now wrapping up. The main events like 100% Design and the other West End fairs might soon be eclipsed by the fringe events in the East End and the south of the city. In Brick Lane, I passed by the New Designers exhibition and the Bombay Sapphire Glass designers exhibition. Here are some highlights…
Marta Klonowska, "The Morning Walk"
images from Loretta Yang’s installation took place earlier in Taiwan’s Liugongfang Museum were on display here in London
Asa Jungelius’ glass stilettos and vaginal candles were just a few items in her larger mise en scene that was like an ode to stylish masturbation.
There were also a few examples of interesting jewellery design showcases.
Jo Hayes-Ward, recent Royal College of Art MA graduate and her rapid prototyping jewellery that use computer modelling and complex maths.
Kathy Vore’s pieces are body adornment and not for the faint-hearted
Marya Kazoun, whose self-portrait here includes loads of her glass critters as if they are just an extension of herself
More abstract objects from the likes of Laura Birdsall
Interiors from Annika Jarring, Gasche Musche/Josepha, Tsuyoshi Inoue and the piece called ‘Clarke Lamina’.
Jo Cope’s work uses multi-functional perspective on classic accessory items like bags, gloves, etc.
My favourite happened to be the winner of this year’s glass prize from the Bombay Sapphire Foundation. Jaume Plensa’s recent installation of glass at Crown Fountain in the heart of Chicago’s business district. The image above is part of a photography series documenting that installation of decorate glass building facades.
