Dear Shaded Viewers,
Last night La Collection Selection 11 opened at the MoMu. The exhibit is signed by Bob Verheist who has done many of the MoMu’s exhibits in the past, including the first one which features in the ‘Fashion-Sampling’ exhibit.
The idea behind the current exhibition was to create the feeling of an old world department store. Unlike the previous thematic collections, the current one takes on the feeling of a magazine where one finds a sampling of collections. Via Maison Martin Margiela we can trace the history of the iconic trench coat. Pieces from Landed 2001, the exhibit which compared Comme des Garcons with Cocoa Chanel are represented with several lingerie inspired CdG dresses and by one of the Chanel suits donated to the MoMu by Queen Paola of Belgium. This part of the exhibition seemed to be a highlight for many of the visitors.
I particulary liked the illustrations on fashion photographs done by designer Dirk Van Saene. I don’t know why but I was quite moved by the way Bob Verhelst hung the long Victorian underskirts suspended from the ceiling.
Later,
Diane
