Dear Shaded Viewers,

I am in Antwerp for the end of the year show at the Royal Academy. Demna Gvasalia was one of my favorite collections. It does seem like this is the year for men’s wear judging by both the festival d’Hyeres and the Royal  Academy.

What you are not seeing that I truly liked was a third year student from Spain Andrea  Ayala Closa who did a fresh and innovative collection on women wearing red wigs and beards. Think Hussein Chalayan meets Marni but in the hands of Andrea Ayala Closa. I am missing images from Peter Bertsch and his bionic collection which reminded me a bit of Amanda Lepore on acid in the future, I liked it. Sometimes the show production out shined the actual collections like the granny mother of the bride collection, I also really enjoyed the show aspect of the one that made me think of Melvin Van Peebles Sweet Sweet back blacksploitation film with the gold chains and super fly looks or the Dolly Parton and the Jamacian inspired collections . There were other highlights as well but these are the ones off the top of my head. I did not get back from the show till 2h and missed Bruno Pieters party which I heard was rocking until around 6h30 this morning and ended in a pillow fight from his beautiful terrace. Later, Diane

Later, Diane
