Dear Shaded Viewers,
I could not resist showing you a few more images from Afke’s exhibit at the Bank. What is important to know about her work is it is a way for her to tell a story and it shows us the differrences and similarities between fantasy and reality.
As a child Afke was surrounded by lots of animals but no matter how well you take care of them not everything survives. She had to bury lots of animals with tears and flowers.
Normally animals are destroyed or buried when they die. Afke reuses the skin like in your shoes or jackets but tries to put an emotion with it that tells a story.
Her work is about trying to catch the emotion and show the beauty of that pure emotion. "Of course it is not beautiful to be killed but death has an instant beauty. I’m inspired by beauty. Death is such a heavy thing but it has an instant beauty. Maybe i’m inspired by beauty."
