One evening a few years ago Waris received a call from Wes Anderson, the director and boyfriend of Tara Subkoff from Imitation of Christ, asking him if he could put aside about 5 months of his time to act in his film The Life Aquatic. This was Waris’s first introduction into acting. Not a bad way to begin a new career, or one of his new careers. Now he considers WIlliam Dafoe to be the official spokesman for House of Waris. The free spirited actor/jewelry designer  lives between New York, Rome and Rjasthan and sells to shops across the globe like Colette in Paris, Seven in NYC and Loveless in Tokyo. Waris studied religion, politics and 1950’s literature before launching his jewellry collection two years ago. While in Rome working on the film he fell in love with his sweet Italian girlfriend and decided to move his production of House of Waris to a little workshop there and now spends his time travelling between the three cities.

While we were talking at the Water Bar at Colette a photographer and journalist came up to us and asked if she could take our picture. Guess she was working on a black turban story. The two waited patiently for us and the picture of Waris and I was taken with my phone by the photographer. While we were being photographed Waris’s girlfriend sent him a text that really made me laugh. She is house sitting for a friend who has some pets and the text read, the frogs are having sex.

Later, Diane

P.S. Meanwhile I am thinking of all of my friends in London and don’t know what to say. I hear that the latest bombs were on the street where Richard’s pub George and Dragon is. I don’t know the details, seems that it was not as bad as the last disaster but the thing is it must be hell for everyone to have to deal with such a violent situation. I cannot do much but let you know that I am thinking about you. Take good care.
