Dear Shaded Viewers,
Tonight I went to preview the collection of Paul Poiret that will soon go on auction at Drouot in Paris. The fashion crowd was out in force to celebrate the life and work of the first fashion celebrity. He lived from 1879 to 1944.
I was most impressed by the accessories.
The collection consists of over 600 pieces.
fashion historian Florence Muller with Azzedine Alia, the man that designed her dress. Azzedine is also a very good friend of Francoise Auget and hosted the event at his space. In addition to being an expert in couture, Francoise Auget has a vintage clothing shop in the 6eme called Ragtime.
architect Jean Christophe with Francoise Auget, the expert that devoted the last 2 1/2 years of her life to putting together this exhibition.
I had a fascinating interview with Mr. Francois Lesage when I was working for Elle.com. He is the owner of the Lesage Embroidery House and as a baby was rocked in the arms of Madeleine Vionnet. He remembers working with YSL at St. Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld when they were all young men but he admitted that he never met Paul Poiret. That said it is probably the owner couture designer that has not crossed his path. Leasage also runs a school that teaches the ancient methods of embroidery along with the modern techniques.
Take care, Diane
