Philippe Cohen Solal & Mike Lindsay collaborate to give a musical dimension to the art of Henry J Darger

Dear Shaded Viewers,

While Philippe Cohen Solal was on a tour in the USA with his band Gotan Project he visited the Folk Art Museum in NYC and discovered a piece created by the artist Henry Darger. He noticed that the piece was on loan from Kiyoko Lerner who, by coincidence, Philippe had already planned to meet up with as he was a friend of a friend and a huge fan of tango music. This was how this collaboration began with the artist Henry Darger.

Philippe began workin gwith his friend Mike Lindsay of the group Tunng, and together they created new folk songs inspired by Henry Darger's unpublished songs, lyric and writings. In order to realize their vision they drafted in the help of the vocal prodigy Adam Glover and the half-crazy and half-angelic musical talent that is Hannah Peel (The Magnetic North). Together they have given Darger's visual world a musical dimension, adding melody created bby vintage guitars, synths, children's instruments string symphonies and weather reports.

You can hear it here and buy it in the iYaBasta! Record Shop. http://www.yabasta-info.com/shop/ You can visit the Henry Darger exhibition at the Musee D'Art Moderne in Paris till October 11th.
