The Light Hours aims to establish a dialogue between the Villa Savoye, designed by Le Corbusier in Poissy (north-west of Paris) between 1928 and 1931, and an extensive site-specific installation of sound and light created by British artist Haroon Mirza. This is his first major intervention in France and is in partnership with theCentre desMonuments Nationauxand at the initiative of Lab'Bel, Artistic Laboratory of the Bel Group.
The Light hours is a dialogue between modern architecture and contemporary art as well as an expression of two movements in history: the first half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. The building's original function was as a "Machine for living" (Le Corbusier). The installation is shaped by a system of solar panels to power the LED lights. The vast network of acoustic vibrations transform the Villa Savoye into a sound-space that Le Corbusier used to call an "unspeakable space".
Haroon Mirza was born in 1977 in London. He creates sound and light installations that are site-specific.
