Dear Shaded Viewers,
This morning I was thinking about a possible return trip to Shanghai and between that, my recent trip to Beijing for which I am still jetlagged, and looking for old photos for my autobiography, I came across these vintage photos of a China that does not exist anymore. The illustration is by Francois Salem and it was a funny incident, we were in the street market and we were wondering if it was ok to eat something there. We were asking the one person we found that spoke english but he was speaking with his mouth full and it was impossible to understand what he was trying to say. He got upset with us asking him to repeat himself and hence the caption" What's the matter don't you speak English?" He was saying that to us.
