Tomohiro Sato, ITS FASHION SPECIAL PRIZE , an exhibition at Pop-UpDesign Gallery, Milan – text and photos by Stefania Seoni

Dear Diane, Dear Shaded Viewers,

PopUpDesignGallery, a new interactive gallery in the heart of Brera, hosted the work of the winner of ITS 2013, the young Japanese designer, Tomohiro Sato. The exhibition was the initiative of the patnership between Luca Lanzoni and Luca Mercatelli, the cofounders of PopUpDesignGallery, and ITS curator Barbara Franchin.

The capsule collection is a visionary journey which goes from the artwork to the fashion.  Tomohiro plays with meticulous details, he uses embroidery, jewelry, leather, diverse materials and fabrics.

His references come from his research into the ancient culture of the samurai to the elements of the Tyrolean folklore. All of the pieces are built in as anarchic experimentation with a pure poetic vision .

I loved the tribute to his grand father: "I've made these clothes for my dear grand father who died feeling pain." said Tomohiro..
