University of Westminster comes to Paris with a fashion seminar at the British Embassy

Dear Shaded Viewers,

At the urging of Zowie, half of the Boudicca team, who teaches at University of Westminster, I went to the fashion seminar. Lovely place, the British Embassy in Paris. Graduates from Westminster include Vivienne Westwood, Christopher Baily and now, Cassette Playa. I loved the contrast between Carrie’s designs and the black and white floor. She has great energy and I feel is destined for success.

I really enjoyed speaking with Nimesh Gadhia who designed a collection of elegant clothes for guys that walk up walls and jump through space. He figured out a way to construct slim clothing that allows movement while not riding up the body. Hes already been approached by PUMA. He made a great film as well. I’m always thinking of edition 2 of You Wear it Well.

One room was given over to the work of Matthew Cunnington, an impressive student of Zowie’s from Boudicca. You could not help but see her influence. One of the draped dresses which was meant to express the weight of the world pulling you down was absolutely perfection. It’s all black so this image does not really show it to its best advantage.

Nic Jones from Rendez-Vous and I had a nice chat with Matthew. I suggested that he apply for the festival d’Hyeres.
Everyone was anxiously waiting for the arrival of Didier Grumbach who gave the final speech. He had time for a cup of tea before taking to the podium.

To be honest, before Zowie told me that she and Shelly Fox were instructors at the University of Westminster I had never heard of the school. Now that I’ve witnessed the students work I am really quite impressed.

Later,

Diane
