Dear Shaded Viewers,
This Sunday I attended The Meagratia show which took place in the annex building of the arts et métiers. The show opened with shifting lights in different colors, accompanied by a repeated music loop; a beautiful introduction echoing our emotions, which could never be defined by a single color.
In this collection, designer Takafumi Sekine makes us feel this entanglement, this blend of conflicting emotions. We see it through gradient-colored tailoring, but also in an opening marked by multiple shades that gradually give way to much darker tones. Indeed, there was a sense of lightness that slowly grew heavier, mirroring our coexisting emotions such as hope and despair.
The coats are held tightly against the body, as if to offer a hug, the shirts are deconstructed and asymmetrical, giving the impression of having been turned inside out. The jackets and vests, almost completely open, along with the loose knits, reveal the models’ bare skin, as if allowing us a glimpse into their minds.
Their garments express a desire to fragment styles, different materials sit side by side, from leather to Tama-ori, a traditional Tokyo craft, to denim, while still remaining faithful to the brand’s DNA, left intact with its organic patterns. At Meagratia, the choice is to honor this in-between state of emotions, this complexity that makes us human. We sense a certain controlled chaos, imbued with beauty, perfectly reflecting our time.
Later,
Alex.
