Denim SS27: Giorgia Cantarini’s New Wave of Conscious Denim in Milan

Dear Shaded Viewer,

Denim Première Vision’s SS27 edition reads like a manifesto for the future of jeans, pulling together visionary designers, material innovators, and strategic industry voices under one roof in Milan. The narrative thread running through it all is a commitment to sustainability, culture, and new forms of creative leadership.

At the heart of this edition is S|STYLE – DENIM LAB powered by KERING, curated by Giorgia Cantarini, who positions emerging talent as the engine of denim’s responsible revolution. Cantarini’s platform, S|STYLE, founded in 2020, is dedicated to creatives who work with strict sustainable criteria, and this season she brings that ethos directly into the denim conversation with a focus on water management and Kering’s net-positive strategy for 2050. Her curation not only selects designers but choreographs a full experience: a site-specific installation built from recycled and denim fabrics that acts as an architectural frame for the work of eight rising designers, amplifying both their creativity and the project’s values.

Several key figures shape the intellectual and creative tone of the event through talks and seminars. Trend forecaster Amy Leverton, founder of Denim Dudes and long-time collaborator of brands like Levi’s, GAP, and H&M, will present an inclusive and eco-conscious reading of denim culture, underlining how jeans reflect shifting social narratives. Visionary duo Lisi Herrebrugh and Rushemy Botter, now leading G-STAR’s creative direction, will dive into what it means to “design the future,” where radical aesthetics meet human-centered values and long-term responsibility.

S|STYLE – DENIM LAB, supported by Kering’s Material Innovation Lab (MIL), becomes one of the most charged spaces of the show, embodying Cantarini’s curatorial emphasis on new voices. Eight brands—Gerrit Jacob, Gisèle Claudia Ntsama, Institution, Jeanne Friot, Macy Grimshaw, Nadya Dzyak, Phan Dang Hoang, and Sia Arnika—unveil projects that merge sharp creative identities with rigorous sustainability, from fabric choices to processes. Presented within the expanded Fashion District, these designers inhabit a shared stage where Cantarini’s eye for edgy, forward talent meets Kering MIL’s deep expertise in responsible materials and water strategy.

The Fashion District doubles in size this season, hosting more than 20 ready-to-wear and accessory brands that blur the line between runway fantasy and industrial know-how. Labels such as Daily Blue by Adriano Goldschmied, Demiurgo, Emina Batik, Fade Out Label, Gimmi Jeans, Hooded Myv, Kentroy Yearwood, Lucia Chains, Marios, Nik Gallo, Simon Cracker, Stripes Of-F Road, Tmmt Clothing, and Victor Hart present exclusive capsules co-created with denim exhibitors. This co-creation model turns the show into an active lab, where fabric innovation immediately translates into finished silhouettes, accessories, and fresh brand narratives.

Innovation sits centerstage with a spectrum of next-gen materials and processes that reframe what denim can be. Eco-designed concepts range from cacao fiber developed by Doors and bio-based dyes by Chloris Biochem to Emily Gubbay’s circular colour system and Calik’s zero-water dyeing method, pointing to a future where denim production radically reduces its environmental footprint. Responsible luxury is embodied by exhibitors such as Geocot, Stylem Takisada, Caitac, and ISKO, whose high-end fabrics and elevated creativity target a more durable, desirable category of jeans that feels premium without compromising on ethics.

The show’s content architecture ensures that creativity and information flow in parallel. In the Trend Forecasting area, denim specialist Julieta Mercerat (Première Vision) joins Amy Leverton (Denim Dudes) to decode SS27 in two season seminars that link cultural narratives with concrete product directions. The new Denim Index area offers a pragmatic counterpoint: over 150 fabric and accessory samples from 30 exhibitors give buyers a clear, tactile overview of the show’s global offer, streamlining sourcing and decision-making.

The Denim Forum, imagined by Kristian Guerra, Head Designer at 44 Level Group, interprets SS27 trends through an innovative material zone and, for the first time, an exhibition of silhouettes made with exhibitors’ fabrics. This curatorial approach translates abstract trend concepts into real pieces, allowing visitors to see, touch, and read the season’s mood in three dimensions. Adding to the cultural gravitas of the event, Sportswear International marks its 50th anniversary with evening celebrations in collaboration with Denim Première Vision and Pioneer Denim, reinforcing the show’s role as both a business platform and a stage for fashion history in motion.

Across more than 65 international exhibitors—60% weavers, 20% garment makers, 6% accessory suppliers, and 5% chemical producers—the show maps the full denim supply chain in one place. From fiber innovations and chemical solutions to finished garments and concept capsules, every link is represented, creating a dense, interconnected ecosystem. Within that ecosystem, Giorgia Cantarini’s S|STYLE – DENIM LAB acts as a focal point, proving that when sharp curatorial vision meets industrial power, denim becomes not just a material, but a medium for systemic change.
