Glennda & Friends ’90s Queer Video Screening at University College of London’s East Cinema. Friday, September 5.

Dear Shaded Viewers,

I’m having back-to-back screenings of my archival drag activist videos in London next month. In addition to my screening and discussion at Verdurin, there will also be a screening at UCL East Cinema’s Spectra Queer Non Fiction Films series. The tickets are free and selling fast! https://bit.ly/3UhMSIa

TGirlsonFilm & Spectra, Queer non-fiction presents a rare screening of Glenn Belverio’s groundbreaking 1990s queer cable television work—a bold blend of drag, direct action, and DIY media radicalism. This evening revisits the era of activist public-access television through a selection of Belverio’s iconic videos and a post-screening conversation with Glennda herself…Glenn Belverio.

We will be screening:

  • Seize Control of the Taj Mahal, dir. Glenn Belverio | 1991 | 29” | United States | English
  • Gender Cruise on the Circle Line Part 2, dir. Glenn Belverio | 1991 | 29”| United States | English
  • Glennda and Bruce Do Times Square, dir. Glenn Belverio | 1994 | 29”| United States | English

Followed by a Q&A with Glenn Belverio

Glenn Belverio is an independent film and video maker who lives and works in New York City. He started video activism as a member of Act Up and later began producing and co-hosting the popular Manhattan Cable series The Brenda and Glennda Show in 1990, a talk show that took the art of drag out of the nightclubs and into the streets, mixing politics with humour. In 1993, the series became Glennda and Friends, a post-queer talk show featuring provocative co-stars such as gay pornographer Bruce LaBruce and guerrilla scholar Camille Paglia.

Hope to see you there!

Love,
Glenn Belverio
