Jun Takahashi Takes UNDERCOVER on a Bohemian Rhapsody by Bethany Berkeley

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Undercover, known for its audacious aesthetic, pushed boundaries once again with their Spring/Summer 2025 collection. Taking place in the Grand Plateau, bare walls served as a stark canvas for the unexpected – a mesmerising visual performance.

As the lights faded, Australian jazz band Glass Beams materialised on the screen, wearing beaded necklaces and rhinestone-encrusted face masks. strumming their guitars and lightly tapping on their drums, the band created a serene melody that enveloped the runway.

Amidst the ongoing digital concert, models sauntered down the runway in laidback looks grounded in bohemian styling. Fluidity was at the core of the collection, with sheer flouncy tops and flowing hooded jackets taking centre stage. A nonchalant aura emulated through the designs, whilst classic menswear suiting was reimagined with lightweight linens, adorned with Takahashi’s signature touch: black and white haunted mansion graphics. Elsewhere wispy smoke motifs could be seen on two-piece sets, and romantic elements like lace veils, gold-trimmed crowns, and wide-brimmed hats added a touch of La Bohème to the collection.

Layering reigned supreme, with pastel, ripped bottoms peeking out from apron-like bandages. Tasseled overshirts and shredded knits added further texture, before a surprise midway shift saw Takahashi introduce a three-look Champion collaboration.

Amping up classic hoodies with double zippers and oversized logos, the UNDERCOVER x Champion collaboration embraced slouchy, cropped looks. Lace patchwork added a unique touch to crewnecks and car coats, while blurred silhouettes with hidden figures hinted at a more mysterious side.

Jun Takahashi offers a lighter and more carefree collection this season, as spring breaks into summer that lightweight touch is unexpectedly welcome.

Later,

Bethany
