TOM OF FINLAND FOUNDATION PRESENTS “ART SPEAKS THROUGH US”

The Tom of Finland Foundation, marking four decades of preserving and promoting the iconic legacy of Tom of Finland, celebrates its milestone 40th-anniversary this year. The foundation will host its annual Tom of Finland Art and Culture Festival at the legendary Halle am Berghain in Berlin from May 31st to June 2nd.
The artists selected for the 2024 Diesel x Tom of Finland Foundation Pride collection, including Stuart Sandford, Suzanne Shifflett, Tank, the Hun, Valentine, Henning von Berg and Tom of Finland — whose artworks are applied as prints and patchworks on the capsule’s 24 pieces each trimmed with a special canvas tape printed with a quotation from the artist. On May 30th, Diesel will host a celebration cocktail party in its flagship store in Berlin where attendees can discover and preview the capsule collection.
Durk Dehner, President & Co-founder of the foundation and partner of Tom prior to his passing, played a pivotal role in shaping Tom’s enduring influence on men’s fashion and erotica. Tom of Finland’s provocative artwork, renowned for its portrayal of men in leather attire, challenged societal norms and embraced a rebellious sensuality that captivated audiences worldwide. This year’s festival holds special significance as we commemorate 40 years of championing freedom of expression and celebrating the beauty of sexuality in all its forms,” says Durk Dehner, co-founder of the Tom of Finland Foundation. “We are thrilled to partner with Halle am Berghain and Diesel for this historic occasion, inviting attendees to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of Tom of Finland and queer art.
The festival, set against the backdrop of Berlin’s iconic Halle am Berghain venue for the first time, promises a dynamic celebration of art, culture, and liberation. Attendees can anticipate a diverse program featuring exhibitions, performances, and interactive experiences that pay homage to Tom’s enduring impact on LGBTQ+ representation and artistic expression. This includes a curated selection of works from esteemed artists such as Slava Mogutin, Matt Lambert, AA Bronson, and other Tom of Finland Foundation collaborators. Additionally, the festival will highlight emerging talents from the Tom of Finland Emerging Artists Competition, showcasing the next generation of artists who continue to push boundaries and redefine queer art.
The festival will also feature curated film selections from renowned directors like Matt Lambert, Slava Mogutin, and Bruce LaBruce, further emphasizing the celebration’s commitment to showcasing diverse queer art forms.
The anniversary festival promises to be a landmark event, showcasing the enduring relevance of Tom’s work and its profound influence on contemporary art and culture. Join them in Berlin from May 31st to June 2nd for an unforgettable celebration of liberation and artistic expression. Stay tuned for additional festival announcements, including events in Los Angeles, Tokyo and London later this year.
