Today, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the creative world of Andreas Francekiss, visiting his atelier nestled in the historic Beaux-Arts of Paris. His inaugural exhibition, which opened on December 1st, was a testament to his unconventional approach to art and fashion. Over the course of a week, Andreas embarked on a unique journey, scavenging for discarded clothing from the streets. Each garment, once deemed as trash, underwent a meticulous cleaning process, transforming into a canvas for his artistic expression.
Andreas envisions these revitalized pieces as potential art installations, challenging the conventional perceptions of fashion. He philosophically views clothing as a manifestation of humanity’s original sin, drawing inspiration from the biblical imagery of Adam and Eve. The centerpiece of his collection, a representation of Adam adorned with a leaf, set the tone for the entire show.
The direction of his work was intriguingly anchored in the footwear he created himself. He ingeniously wrapped these shoes in t-shirts, creating a harmonious blend of texture and form. Andreas’ concept of ‘love land’ was evident in his designs, striving to ensure that the clothes complemented the wearer, rather than overpowering them.
Collaborating closely with his best friend Julien, Andreas infused his styling with a blend of rebellion and adherence to traditional fashion norms. He playfully incorporated established elements like the customary bridal finale, while maintaining a focus on personal connections in his casting choices. As an artist, Andreas prioritizes genuine interactions, selecting models who resonate with his vision and ethos.
His label, Francekiss, is a celebration of French identity, a homage to his cultural roots and artistic inclinations. It’s a fascinating journey into Andreas’ mind and artistry.
