YOHJI YAMAMOTO – Autumn Winter 2021 Men’s – PFW – text by Ivo Barraza Castaneda

Is it right to assume that Yohji Yamamoto was going harder than ever on his identity  related to the color black this season? In any case, the presentation film of his AW21 collection really makes you dive into the dark waters. The pieces seem to be more minimalistic than ever too, there are a lot less style lines than usual in a Yamamoto collection, in revenge for that; volume has expanded in this season. Not any ordinary oversized volume, rather it is a very sculptural way of expanding the body, almost like you would inflate the silhouette which remains nevertheless light .  The messages of protest printed on the garments are also  a new vibe. Proof that fashion can not keep only selling dreams, it must also engage in social reality.

Hello, my name is Ivo. My three favorite things in life are: Thinking deeply about visual creation. I like having long discussions of ideas that might reinvent the course of history. And finally, spending time with the people I love. Since I was a child, I was always involved in some activity around plastic arts, music and literature. That’s how I learned to sew by hand at the age of five, which later led me to focus on my main professional media: Fashion Design.
