Mareunrol’s exhibition at the Latvian Museum of Decorative Arts and Design photos by Andrejs Strokins.

Dear Shaded Viewers,

I met the Mareunrol’s 2006 or 2007 in Stockholm but before I’d even met them I’d received their film for ASVOFF, The Detective, it was the first edition of ASVOFF at the Jeu de Paume. I’d visited them in Riga where there was an ASVOFF screening and proposed that they submit their work to the festival d’Hyeres. They did and they won three prizes.  The current exhibition spans collections from 2005 – 2019 and the exhibit is titled Altered States of Fashion. The collection is an intellectual study combining all the media: music, art, literature, cinema, life and dreams. The first room of the exhibition is the video wall where you can see a volume of their films and fashion shows from there you enter a big exhibition space where you can see MAREUNROL’S collections which are put together by themes. Very soon you will be able to access the book that they have created including their sketches and overflowing with imagination. At the far end of the exhibition space you will find a glass case with dolls wearing their clothes. They are pure poetry and I cannot reveal too much but you will be seeing more of them sometime in the spring.
