FASHIONCLASH FESTIVAL 2016 / WUETHRICHFUERST – TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI PHOTOS BY TEAM PETER STIGTER

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Based in Basel, Switzerland, Karin Wüthrich and Matthias Fürst clearly know what luxury is, but they also like to pervert it a bit. Their womenswear show, which was presented in Maastricht, managed to balance odd elements with elegant shapes, creating an eccentric and nonchalant feeling. Inspired by menswear staples, such as the classic business shirt, the tailored coat and loose pleated pants, the Swiss designers used sophisticated fabrics to generate graphic contrasts, from Swiss lace and silk satin to textured felt and speckled wool. Volumes were often exaggerated, adding a playful touch to sleek separates. The duo’s bizarre accessories, from moulded cowboy hats extending into design elements to weird-looking satin covered pumps, complemented their clothes well, emphasizing an awareness of the whole silhouette as well as a 3D approach.

Best,

Philippe
