Modern Design Gets to Work in California's Wine Country

During a visit to my hometown of Petaluma, one hour north of San Francisco, I was intrigued to learn about the latest project to hit this preservation-chic city. A one-story nondescript law office built in 1963 had been transformed into a shared workspace called Work with an aesthetic I dare "very Seventies," though many elements were earlier or later. Married couple and Work founders Natasha Juliana and Matt Moller, an architect and design junkie, decided they wanted to provide a professional work space that would be more than drab cubicles and a Wi-fi connection. Matt gave me a tour just after New Year's. I wanted to stay forever, or at least long enough to write an Armistead Maupin Tales of the City prequel.
