Dear Shaded Viewers,
I always enjoy attending BIFFF, Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. There's something for everyone, from psychological thrillers and Sci-Fi tales to torture porn and gore delicacies. I also value the fact that you get to watch films from all over the world, whether it be Japan, Belgium, Sweden or the US. For its 30th edition, BIFFF's international jury awarded its Golden Raven to Nick Murphy's "The Awakening", a stylish and gripping film involving a paranormal investigator and a ghost boy.
I really liked "Tormented", which received the international's jury Silver Raven and was directed by Takashi Shimizu. Think blood, rabbits and 3D thrills.
Every year, BIFFF honors an artist, whose work directly relates to the festival. This time, it was Jean-Marc Laroche's turn with "Nice to be Dead", an exhibition which made you look at death in a rather different way. You'll be pleased to know that -in the afterlife- skeletons wear vintage Lanvin, while developing a taste for feathered boas.
Best,
Philippe
