This is not a House, Edgar Martins

Edgar Martins – This is not a House at the Wapping Project Bankside, 9 May to 30 June

Dear Shaded Viewers,

In the winter of 2008 Edgar Martins was commissioned by The New York Times Magazine to explore the United States' subprime mortgage industry collapse and its impact on the real estate market. Martins, as a photographic artist, set out to photograph abandoned homes, golf courses, ski resorts, hotels and building projects in 16 location over six federal states, choosing locations in their widdest latitude in order to expose the full extent and impact of this crisis.

The fact that Martin's chose to digitally reshape some of the images was cause for a heated debate in the summer of 2009, Art and Journalism…In 2011, Dewi Lewis published the work in a book which is available in galleries and museums around the world as a vehicle to consider and address some of the longest-lasting questions around truth and verisimilitude in Photography..

The gallery is open Tue-Sat from 10am to 6pm and Monday by appointment.
