Dear Shaded Viewers,
Lucky me, Sonny Vandevelde came to pick me up at Central Station. That place is huge, but beautiful, and not that easy to find the exit. He took me to the lovely Mantilope Hotel where I received a warm reception and had a lovely room.
Normally I arrive in time for the jury visits but today I was running a bit late so I visited the designers with Anne Chapelle and Raissa Verhaeghe from bvba32 and Ann Deumeulmeester and her husband and Vincent Vantomme from Link Unlimited and of course, Sonny. For those of you who don’t know who Anne Chapelle is, she is the force behind designers Ann Demeulmeester and Haider Ackermann and considered one of the most powerful fashion business women in Belgium.
The first person we saw was David Flamee from the Flanders Fashion Institute. The first time we met, years ago, he was on the cover of the catalogue for the school show dressed as an angel complete with white wings and from that time on I’ve always seen him that way.

This was pretty funny, Jarno Kettunen asked me if he could draw my portrait and as time was very short, I asked him to meet me on the train platform. We amassed quite a crowd of spectators. Jarno’s style is quite abstract, he looks at the subject but not at the paper. He managed to get 3 done before my train came.
Not only did Ali Mahdavi make my train ride a total pleasure but he was an angel and dropped me off at my apartment and even carried my luggage, which felt like a ton of bricks, up my stairs. I must admit, I do love to travel but carrying my luggage is one of my least favorite things.
Later,
Diane
