Dear Shaded Viewers,
Bright sun shine greeted the opening of the 2nd Arnhem Fashion Biennale co-curated by Piet Paris and Joff. I arrived this morning on the plane with Luca Marchetti and Sarah from Colette. We were all so late that none of us even knew we were on the same plane. Arnhem is about an hour and a half ride from Amsterdam. The Bilderberg, my hotel, is where Madonna stayed when she was here. I could not resist taking this photo of Luca in front of his hotel and this ugly advert that is all over the city.
One of the first people I saw at the festival was Hyeres grand prize winner, Sandra Backlund.
The festival began with a cocktail on the lawn of the Arnhem Museum of Modern Art. I think that I told you before, the way that the exhibit was set up there is no hierarchy nor distinction made between established designers and the emerging talents. In the Museum you will find the work of Maison Martin Margiela, Lanvin, Galliano, Viktor & Rolf, KIND, Dan Gonen, Idiots, Cathy Pill, Rodarte, Sandra Backlund andThe People of the Labyrinths.

The butterfly space with Sandra Backlund, Cathy Pill, Rodarte and The People of the Labyrinths. Very warm and very pleasant with butterflies landing on the dolls from time to time. I saw that one escaped and was attached to a wall outside. A few dresses from Lanvin

Matthieu Laurette and Marty Lamers and Spijkers and Spijkers
I thought that this man looked like part of the installations.
Across the river beats the heart of the Arnhem Fashion Biennale. In order to get there you walk across bridges and then take a boat to the other bank. The Biennale uniforms are very upbeat HAPPY and were designed by Joff , the co-curator of the exhibit. Here is the view from the boat.
Designers were asked to create a space that best reflects their own fashion paradise.

The party ended at 12h30 and then there was the after party but Henrik, Luca and I were hungry and exhausted. We had all just arrived today. We never found any food and passed on the after party. On the boat ride back I met a beautiful ballet dancer Yusuke Tsutsumi.
Finally we decided that we would have to dream about breakfast.
Later,
Diane
