I saw David the other day and asked him to send me a few images from his new collection. He also brought me a copy of his new magazine, Under the Influence. Issue n. 1 talks about the influence of Vionnet on designers past and present along with the influences of Chanel , Christobal Balenciaga, YSL and Comme des Garcons. The traces of these designers in the collections of today and decades ago remains profound. I know from when I interviewed David Szeto a few years ago that Vionnet and CdG changed the way that he perceived fashion. He is not alone.
What I love about David’s clothes is the way they feel when you wear them. I’ve always believed in that old adage, simplicity is elegance. A perfect cut does not demand much more than a beautiful fabric and a good construction but as simple as that sounds, it is very rarely achieved.
