Dear Shaded Viewers and Diane,

Another crowd-pleaser here at Vienna Fashion Week, undoubtedly was the Lila show. Sandwiched on both sides by parades of black jersey and the sleek, slouchy urban appeal of labels like TrueYou, ROEE and MILK, Lila’s designer Lisi Lang cleanses our palate with a fresh palette of velveteen pastels. A candyfloss peplum there, a plush jacket there with a dusty motif in lemon, light blue and mint. The whites are milky and floor-length, ribbed or lightly quilted or yet embossed with rosebuds and swirls. The cuts are practical: from shirt-dresses with gathered waist to pockets even on the most ladylike of looks, and the styling is modern with tops half unbuttoned, pale pink socks paired with lilac boots. And the models are all smiles. Still, a sugar-coated, sweet kind of wistfulness lingers: we’re reminded of the textiles of childhood, the faded patterns of baby blankets echoed in a bomber subtly printed with multicoloured sticks. Another one, and a sweater and a shirt all rekindle the busy flowery themes of grandmothers’ upholstery, while roomy, textured outerwear staples in peach and honeydew stripes recall the designs of beach umbrellas towards the end of the summer season, dimmed by the first few drops of autumn rain.
